Where three towns meet
La Cala sits right on the boundary of Finestrat, Villajoyosa and Benidorm — and it genuinely straddles all three. The cove’s sand belongs to the municipality of Finestrat, while the seafront car park, the buildings and the lively Tuesday and Saturday market just behind the beach fall under Villajoyosa; Benidorm begins barely three kilometres up the coast. The result is a calm, sheltered bay — quieter than Benidorm’s Levante and Poniente beaches — with three town centres on its doorstep.
What’s around
Benidorm, about ten minutes away, is the city side: long Blue Flag beaches, restaurants and nightlife, water sports, and the Terra Mítica, Aqualandia and Mundomar theme parks. Villajoyosa, just to the southwest, is its opposite — “the joyful town,” known for its rows of brightly painted houses, a historic old town and city walls along the Amadorio river, more than 15 km of Blue Flag coastline, and a centuries-old chocolate heritage that still includes the Valor factory. Inland, the village of Finestrat is a hill town of Moorish origin, with cobbled streets and arched gateways beneath the Puig Campana, and the Sierra Cortina and Villaitana golf courses close by.
Getting around is easy: the TRAM light-rail runs along the coast linking Benidorm, Villajoyosa, Altea and Alicante, the AP-7 motorway is nearby, and Alicante–Elche airport is roughly 50–60 minutes by car.
